Kevin van Bladel's new book Ancient Persian: A Linguistic History (Cambridge University Press, 2026, open access) argues that the creation of the first Persian empire triggered demographic changes that transformed the grammar of the Persian language. The panel opens with the author's brief presentation of the book, followed by reflections from other scholars on its ramifications.
