John Guy, the Florence and Herbert Irving Curator of the Arts of South and Southeast Asia at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, presents two extraordinary painted cotton cloths from south India that show the dynamics of the international textile trade in the early eighteenth century. Reading their design histories, he explores textile design, commissioning, production and consumption from Europe to Japan, and the territorial and commercial conflicts of eighteenth-century south India. A Q&A and reception follow; cosponsored by the M. S. Chadha Center for Global India.
