Genpei, a series of twenty-two screenprints by contemporary Japanese artist Takeda Hideo (born 1948), radically reimagines the twelfth-century Genpei civil war told in The Tale of the Heike, emphasizing acts of cruelty, betrayal, and arrogance. The exhibition places the series within his career as a satirical cartoonist amid the social upheaval of late twentieth-century Japan. On view through January 3, 2027; free.
